Article Icon 1New Dinosaur Discovered in Colorado

Scientists have identified a new dog-sized species of dinosaur from fossilized bones found in Colorado’s Morrison Formation, a well-known fossil bed believed to date back to the Jurassic era.

The dinosaur, Enigmacursor mollyborthwickae, was a herbivore about the same size as a labrador. It ran around on two legs, likely at high speeds to dodge larger predators, according to a study published last week.

Its partially complete skeleton—a rare find for small dinosaurs—was discovered in Moffat County in 2021 and 2022 but was misclassified until last week.

According to the study’s authors, the finding suggests more small dinosaurs have yet to be unearthed in the fossil-rich region.

Colorado’s wet spring may bring a spike in rattlesnake activity along the Front Range this summer, wildlife experts warn.

While rattlesnakes are most active at night, daytime sightings peak from April to September as the snakes seek shade during the heat of the day.

According to researchers, rainy weather boosts prey populations, leading to a surge in snake activity, potentially making this summer’s snakebite season more severe.

Experts recommend sticking to trails, leashing pets, wearing protective clothing, and staying alert. If bitten, don’t try to suck out the venom—instead, call 911 immediately.
