Article Icon 1Morphew Charged Again in Wife’s Murder

Barry Morphew, a Chaffee County man long suspected in the 2020 disappearance of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, was charged with first-degree murder for the second time on Friday.

Morphew was initially arrested in 2021, but charges were dropped the next year due to prosecutorial issues with evidence under the previous district attorney. See a timeline here.

In 2023, more than a year after the case’s dismissal, investigators discovered Suzanne’s remains. An April 2024 autopsy linked her death to a potent animal tranquilizer that only Morphew was known to have access to in the area.

Morphew was taken into custody in Arizona with bond set at $3 million. The new prosecutor, Twelfth Judicial District Attorney Anne Kelly, is seeking to extradite him to Colorado.

Article Icon 1Colorado Leaders React to Iran Strike

Hours after the U.S. military bombed three nuclear sites in Iran, Colorado leaders on both sides of the aisle shared their reactions.

Republicans praised the strike as a decisive step toward peace in the Middle East. Rep. Gabe Evans said he was glad to see President Trump take action, adding, “We achieve peace through strength.”

Some Democrats called the strike “unconstitutional,” citing its lack of congressional approval and warning it could destabilize the region and amount to an “act of war.”

On X, Gov. Polis said he met with his public safety team and directed them to remain vigilant against threats to the state’s infrastructure and military assets.

Article Icon 1James Leprino, Cheese Magnate, Dies at 87

James “Jim” G. Leprino, the Colorado billionaire behind Leprino Foods, the world’s largest producer of mozzarella cheese, died Thursday at age 87.

Leprino was born in Denver in 1937. In 1950, his father opened a small neighborhood grocery store, where the family began handmaking ricotta and scamorza cheese. Leprino joined the business full-time in 1956.

With his help, the family business grew into an international powerhouse, eventually becoming a global leader in dairy products and a supplier to chains like Domino’s, Pizza Hut, and Papa John’s.

With a $2.1 billion fortune, Leprino ranked as the sixth wealthiest Coloradan in 2025. The company praised him as a devoted leader with a “generous heart and a deep commitment to giving back.”
