Article Icon 1DPS Drops ICE Lawsuit

Denver Public Schools (DPS) has agreed to dismiss its lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the district announced Tuesday.

Filed in February, the lawsuit sought to reinstate a rescinded Biden-era policy prohibiting federal immigration enforcement at schools and other “sensitive locations.”

Though DPS didn’t win the lawsuit, the district declared “a victory” in the case because DHS admitted its new policy, which was previously unpublished, hadn’t “fundamentally changed” from the old one.

DPS said it would refile the lawsuit “should circumstances change” or should any immigration enforcement action be taken on school property or near a school.

Article Icon 1Denver Reports Historic Homelessness Drop

Denver has recorded the largest two-year reduction in unsheltered homelessness in U.S. history, Mayor Mike Johnston announced Monday.

According to the Point-in-Time Count (PIT), a one-night snapshot conducted every January, Denver’s number of unsheltered homeless fell 45% since 2023, from 1,423 to 785. This includes people living outside, in tents, vehicles, or other places “not suitable for living.”

Despite the decline in street homelessness, overall homelessness, both in Denver and the broader Denver area, has steadily risen. See a chart here.

Officials also note that PIT is a limited snapshot, often varying based on factors like weather, making it an imperfect but useful metric.

Article Icon 1Swift Granted Order Against Colorado Man

Taylor Swift filed for a restraining order last week against Brian Jason Wagner, a 45-year-old Henderson man who has allegedly stalked and harassed the pop star for nearly a year.

In the petition, Swift says Wagner began showing up at her Los Angeles home in July 2024, claiming to live on the property and have a child with her.

The filing also notes that Wagner, who was jailed in 2023, sent hundreds of emails to Swift’s staff and fraudulently obtained a driver’s license with her address, which she never made public.

All of this “creates a fear of imminent harm,” the petition states. A judge granted a temporary restraining order on Monday, ahead of a June 30 hearing.
