Article Icon 1Lyft Requests Rideshare Bill Veto

Lyft sent a letter to Gov. Jared Polis on Tuesday asking him to veto House Bill 25-1291, the Rideshare Safety Bill, joining Uber in publicly opposing the measure.

The letter says the bill “harms those it seeks to protect” and would “leave the future of Lyft’s operations in Colorado uncertain.” Last month, Uber also threatened to leave the state if the bill is signed into law.

The bill, which reached Polis’ desk last week, was sponsored by Rep. Jenny Willford (D – District 34), who alleges she was assaulted by a Lyft driver.

On Tuesday, felony charges related to those allegations were filed against Mukhammadali Mukadyrov, who is accused of impersonating another driver during the alleged assault.

The Arapahoe County District Attorney’s (DA) Office is defending its decision to give probation and community service to a teenager who was in the country illegally and driving without a license when he killed a woman.

Investigators say the teen was speeding at more than 90 mph—double the speed limit—when he struck Kaitlyn Weaver’s car, killing the 24-year-old instantly.

The teen faced a possible maximum sentence of two years in youth corrections, but the DA offered a plea deal that resulted in two years of probation and 100 hours of community service.

John Weaver, Kaitlyn’s father, says the justice system is broken, noting there is also no financial liability despite nearly $1 million in medical bills.

A massive Chinese-language crypto black market that funneled at least $8.4 billion through Telegram was registered in Colorado, according to crypto-tracking group Elliptic.

The market, Xinbi Guarantee, laundered money for crypto scammers—many of them North Korean cybercriminals—and used crypto to facilitate a variety of criminal services.

It claimed to operate through Xinbi Co. Ltd, which legally incorporated in Aurora in 2022. Experts say this was likely a tactic to gain inroads in the U.S. and project legitimacy.

Though Telegram shut down thousands of Xinbi Guarantee’s channels on Monday, similar marketplaces have been quick to resurface in the past.
