Article Icon 1Wife of Suspect Arrested in Dog Breeder’s Death

A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of Paul Peavey, an Idaho Springs dog breeder found shot to death on his property in 2024.

Ana Ferrer was arrested on April 4 in connection with the homicide. She’s married to the first suspect arrested in Peavey’s death, Sergio Ferrer, who was charged last year with first-degree murder and robbery.

After Peavey’s death, 10 of his Doberman puppies were reported missing. A search of Sergio Ferrer’s phone revealed attempts to sell Doberman puppies on social media.

Ana Ferrer is charged with accessory to a crime, theft totaling $20,000 to $100,000, and tampering with physical evidence. Despite the arrests, only two of the missing puppies have been located.

Thieves stole roughly 600 pounds of marijuana from a Colorado State Patrol (CSP) evidence container in Arapahoe County, the agency announced yesterday.

The break-in was discovered on April 4, when a technician at the site noticed damage to a gate. Further investigation revealed a secure trailer had been broken into and a large cache of marijuana stolen.

Investigators determined the theft occurred days earlier when thieves came to the property after dark and used a power tool to break locks on the gate and trailer.

CSP says it has “identified gaps” in the facility’s security processes and will increase the frequency of camera checks and property walkthroughs to better safeguard evidence.
