Residents in the Weld County community of Galeton were asked to evacuate Sunday evening due to a containment issue at a nearby oil and gas facility.

Authorities learned of the incident around 6 p.m. Sunday. Though few details were released, a smoke-like plume could be seen spewing from the facility south of Weld Country Road 74. Watch a video report here

As a precaution, 12 residents within a half-mile radius of the incident were evacuated. Galeton Elementary School, which is on the edge of the evacuation zone, closed on Monday.

Several agencies responded to the site, including Galeton Fire and Greeley Fire HazMat. Responders declared the incident no longer emergent around 9 a.m. yesterday.

Article Icon 1Jena Griswold to Run for Attorney General

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced on Monday she will run to be Colorado’s attorney general in 2026.

Griswold was elected Secretary of State in 2018 and reelected in 2022. She’s known for backing the 2024 effort to block President Trump from appearing on Colorado’s presidential ballot.

In an interview, Griswold said she’s the “most qualified person in the race” despite her limited courtroom experience, citing her tenure in her current position and history of conflict with the Trump administration.

So far, no Republicans have entered the race. Phil Weiser, the current attorney general, will run for governor following his 2026 term limit.

Article Icon 1Denver Named Sixth Coolest City

Denver has been named the sixth coolest city in the United States, beating out iconic locales like New York, Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles, in a new ranking.

The ranking analyzed 50 cities based on “key factors associated with being cool,” such as the number of record stores, hidden gem bars, and upcoming concerts.

Based on these metrics, Denver comes in on the heels of the top five, thanks in part to its thriving music scene and high number of tattoo parlors.

The analysis adds that Denver is celebrated as a “gateway to outdoor adventure,” noting what makes a city cool isn’t just its reputation, but its “unique blend of culture.”
